In order to address the rising prevalence of these accidents, officials implemented a hospital-wide program that incorporates educational materials for patients and their families, and includeds a booklet and poster for each room in the hospital. Researchers found that two months before the program was established, the fall rate was about 13 per 1,000 patient days in the cardiovascular unit. After the initiative was launched, this figure dropped to about 5 per 1,000, a reduction of 64 percent. The research team said that further study will be needed in order to determine the long-term effects of the fall prevention program. |
