"This year, the impact continues virtually unabated, and in some cases is far worse, especially for low-income women and [those] of color," Rahman explained. "The so-called economic recovery is not reaching [enough] women or others in need - not by a long stretch." The survey found that as many as 77 percent of low-income American women are living paycheck to paycheck. In particular, older ladies who act as caregivers for elderly parents as well as their own children may be the most vulnerable population. These individuals may not be able to save enough for retirement. Rahman concluded that political leaders should create more jobs and refrain from cutting programs that may be critical for low-income Americans. |

Although the U.S. economy is slowly recovering, millions of Americans are still feeling its consequences, according to a recent survey conducted by the nonprofit Ms. Foundation for Women. An estimated two-thirds of individuals in the U.S. say that the economic downturn is still impacting their quality of life, and the majority of these people are female.
