The Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care (AQNHC) is reminding these officials of the importance of nursing, long term care and rehabilitation facilities in America, which currently employ 1.7 million individuals in the U.S. These organizations generate an estimated $200 billion each year in national economic activity. The AQNHC is reminding HHS officials that Medicare funding stability is critical to maintaining the role of the long term care industry as one of the U.S.'s largest employers."Medicare funding adequate in the final fiscal year 2012 budget is not just central to our sector's ability to sustain seniors' access to quality care, but it is also fundamental to creating more good local jobs and a stronger economic recovery," said Alan G. Rosenbloom, AQNHC president. A recent study revealed that the long term care sector generates about $21.4 billion annually and employs more than 150,000 individuals in New York alone. These numbers are comparable to those of many other states, including California, Ohio, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania. |

This week, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Kathleen Sebelius, Office of Management and Budget director Jacob Lew and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner are visiting Capitol Hill to attend House and Senate budget hearings.
