This action "would damage the nation's healthcare system by decimating Medicaid, Medicare and recent coverage gains made possible by the Affordable Care Act," Keehan said. "Rather than a path to prosperity, the budget resolution is a road map to ruin for these vital safety net programs and the future health of our nation." She urged Congress to consider that deficit reduction should not come at the cost of vulnerable seniors, as these cuts could shift the burden of long term care expense onto beneficiaries, healthcare providers and state governments. Keehan stated that she is confident that lawmakers who exercise true leadership will be able to reach a reasonable agreement on addressing deficits without harming vulnerable Americans. |

The proposed cuts to Medicaid funding have recently met with much opposition, including Carol Keehan, who serves as president and CEO of the Catholic Health Association of the United States. She recently spoke about the effects that such a decision would have on the health and well-being of countless seniors in the U.S.
