AARP launches nationwide campaign to protest cuts to Medicare and Social SecurityThe American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) recently launched a new campaign that aims to fight against budget proposals that threaten to cut crucial Social Security and Medicare benefits for millions of older adults. The initiative includes a multi-million dollar advertising blitz that comprises grassroots and online activities, in hopes of encouraging Congress to oppose harmful cuts that could negatively impact the country's elderly population.

Last week, the AARP aired its first national television spot, which urged viewers to join in on the fight.

"Older Americans care deeply about the nation's fiscal health, but making political deals that cut their hard-earned benefits is the wrong way to address these challenges," said Nancy LeaMond, executive vice president of the organization.

She added that imposing arbitrary spending cuts will not only negatively affect retirees, but may also add to the burden that many Americans are already dealing with in terms of health and financial security.

She urged Congress to balance addressing the national debt with preserving the economic stability of millions of older individuals.
