NCOA resource can help counselors and beneficiaries get the latest Medicare newsIt is important for older Americans to understand all of their options when it comes to getting insurance for seniors. Understanding and keeping up with newly updated benefits can be challenging, and the National Council on Aging's (NCOA) My Medicare Community initiative was designed to address this.

Since its launch in 2007, the program has enabled more than 2,400 benefits counseling professionals and volunteers get the news and information they need to help beneficiaries get the most out of their Medicare packages.

The program, which is partly funded by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, allows benefits counselors to read about the latest developments and participate in an online forum to discuss the news with other visitors.

"Benefits counselors do great work in helping older adults and people with disabilities understand maximize their Medicare coverage so they can live healthy and secure," said Sandra Nathan, NCOA senior vice president of economic security. "My Medicare Community is a critical tool to make their job easier."

New resources are now available on the forum to help counselors prepare for the 2012 Part D and Medicare Advantage Annual Enrollment Period that will begin this October.
